Silentshade had decided to go hunting in Starnight Forest. He smelled a rabbit and soon it was revealed to him. He gave chase, but coming across a path he slipped and fell in a mud patch.
"Hey, bad-blood!" shouted a wolf warrior in an incoming border patrol on the pathway. "What good are you if you cannot even keep your balance?"
"Useless half-pack!" snarled another wolf, laughing scornfully.
"I tell you, there is a curse on that young boy!" muttered the warrior who led the patrol.
Silentshade growled, and immediately took off into the bushes. He had gone through their jeers since he was a pup, but it really upset him this time so he ran as far as the border of his territory. He stood upon a large boulder which he had gotten on top of from a hill the rock was attached to. He looked over the savannah and wondered if the Indigoscar Pack would be more welcoming toward him. With the mud clinging to his pelt still, he contemplated leaving the Whitedapple Pack.

The sun warmed the chill from a dark pelt dusted with sand. The female, no stranger to the lands but ever cautious still, crept out from the shade of a rather large baobab. Pale eyes slowly gazed out at the land before them, nose slightly upturned. She gave a few, quick inhales. The slight breeze brought to her the scent of many things, animal and plant alike. Most were familiar smells; the tiny troop of rodents, her brother and the ever-so-faint odors of the packs that owned the lands she frequented.
On this day, with the hot sand beneath her paws, Eris detected that one was closer than usual. She had made certain to steer clear and away from the borders when the patrols were out, but was obviously aware of her proximity to the border that separated the Savannah from the forest. A mistake in her attempts to better view the trees, she noted. Eris lowered her head and turned her eyes back to the safety of the desert. It promised endless warmth, dead shrubs and undisturbed napping. Ahead of her, however, there was the prospect of finally seeing one the the wolves that lived among the trees.
She had only seen them from afar, small blotches on the horizon. Perhaps she could at least make an attempt at being on friendly terms with one of the packs. Hostile retribution for her free-loading was not what she wanted. It took a minutes time for her to settle on a plan of action; go back home or walk forward. But before long Eris found her legs slowly carrying her to the smell. It was stronger than before and had a pleasantly earthy aroma.
In her jaws she clutched tightly a naked mole rat. It was foolish enough to venture from it's hole in the ground and paid the ultimate price for crossing her path. It was to be a peace offering of sorts, something to show she meant no harm. If she'd had thought of it earlier, Eris would have prepared something more...proper. Nevertheless she pressed on until she could make out the shape of a wolf on a rock. It did not look aggressive at first glance so she decided to approach in an obvious manner.
"Hello," she said, nearing. "You are...of the forest pack, are you not?"
Upon reaching a respectable distance, she could see that the wolf was a young male. Eris tilted her head slightly to the side in a gesture of curiosity. A young one from the forest on the outskirts? Could it be that he was a scout? Or maybe just an inquisitive one. Eris fixed him with an unwavering stare as she thought.

Silentshade almost didn't hear the wolf who had approached, he had been so deep in thought. Joining Indigoscar Pack was such an appealing idea right now. He looked up from his sulking and saw the black she-wolf who carried a naked mole rat in her mouth. "I... am," he said, wincing since he was disgusted in the Whitedapple Pack for what they'd put him through. "My name is Silentshade. Who might you be...?"
Had the wolf been stealing prey from his pack's territory? He wondered if he could ask the wolf a favor. . .

The way the male held himself spoke loudly of things he did not say. Things Eris wanted to know, yet things she would refrain from asking. She found herself studying him then, eyes assessing him with clinical curiosity and surgical precision. The silence from her lasted a minute too long and she caught herself. Eris cut her eyes to the side, then back to the male. Silentshade, he said his name was. His name was quite unique by her standards. But that was another thought for another day.
"Eris." came her simple reply. She felt like she should add more on to that, but quickly realized there was nothing to add. So, before silence had a chance to sink it's teeth in, she took two steps towards Silentshade and dropped the mole rat from her jaws. It landed with a dull strike on the sand below the rock the male was perched upon. With the gift presented, Eris felt...slightly less of a leech. Just ever so slightly. It would, in no way at all, make up for her frequent trips into the forest for better food. But it was all she had at the moment. If he was there with her hunting (and occasionally loitering) on his packs lands as a cause, then she felt it imperative to get off on a good paw.
Starting with a much called for apology.
"I..." oh, how should she go about this? "You must be here because of me. I understand that the wolves of the trees claim the forest. The others; the savannah. I'm...I have no lands to call my own any longer."
Her front legs shuffled a bit, one paw lifting slightly followed by the other. The idea that she was appearing pitiful before him had her attempting to quickly clarify what she wanted to say, before she appeared too low.
"I apologize for the prey taken. I would have each hunted repaid if necessary, you have my word!"
She spoke with honesty. There was a desire to ask that she and her brother not be blocked from the lands -- even if they spent more time in the savannah, but Eris held her tongue in favor of watching him. She trained her eyes to his every move, keen to see his reaction. She would not place any fault with him if he ran her off, though she still hoped the younger wolf would think otherwise.

So her name was Eris. Silentshade now assumed that that she-wolf was a loner. He didn't know whether he should just report her to his clan now and make himself look good in front of his pack, or befriend the she-wolf and banish the feelings of loneliness. He did not decide just yet.
Silentshade did not want to give away the fact that he had not even detected her in the slightest until she had caled out to him, nor did he want to let on that his pack was overly superstitious about bloodlines. "I am here because of you," he lied. "I see you've brought a mole rat with you, as well. That would belong to my pack, I'm petty sure."
Then he heard Eris apologize very politely for taking from the Whitedapple Pack. He smiled, glad for the respect she was showing him. He was not used to that sort of treatment.
In fact, he realized, for all she knows, I am the alpha!
If that was what she though, then he was going to let her think that just to build his own self-esteem. "Apology is accepted," he said, flicking his tail. He recognized the peace offering and knew then that she was not a threat to his pack. He came down from the rock and went to meet her, a distance of about nine feet between them.

To say that she was glad he wasn't angry with her, or so it seemed, would be an understatement. As he accepted her apology he stepped down from the rock and approached her. There was slight apprehension in her at the movement, but it dissipated a little when he stopped a distance away from her. Far enough to maintain personal space, but near enough to put them, more or less, eye-to-eye.
She could see him clearly, and had to assume the same was the case for him.
"Yes, it does. It isn't much but it is all I have." she explained slowly. With the acceptance of her modest apology and the mentioning of the rodent belonging to his pack, Eris had come to the logical conclusion that he was of importance, if not Alpha. That made sense. Why send an Omega or other such low ones to confront a possible threat? A position of power would have to handle the situation, surely.
Knowing that she should greet him with the respect he was owed, Eris thought to put herself in a lower position. The actual act, however, was easier said than done. The she-wolf was never really a vain or overly-proud wolf, and while true he was of some significance, he was not to her. At most she lowered her head and kept her tail to the ground. Not that she lifted it often to begin with. the movement was a little awkward, with her ears seeming to battle among themselves for maintaining an alert point or a passive flatness.
"This pack of yours...what is your name? Are you a beta, or perhaps an alpha?" Eris asked suddenly. Vaguely aware that she could come off as questioning his dominance, Eris took a precautionary step back. She told herself it was to proffer him the mole rat.

He truly was grateful for her submission to him; it felt good to finally be shown respect. He kind of regretted it though, since it was not due to him. Plus, if Lightning Whitedapple found out then he'd be punished... giving the pack all the more reason to abuse him.
"I am the alpha of the Whitedapple Pack," he answered confidently, and rather dramatically as if really enjoying this. "I was called the most purebred of my pack, and according to others noble is a title too low for me. So tell me, where do you come come from...?"
This was so unlike him, but he felt so much better about himself.

Whitedapple...Eris rolled the name around in her head for a moment. For one who lived between the two pack lands, she had never heard of the Whitedapple group before. She'd seen them plenty of times, but their name had eluded her until just now. Perhaps he knew the name of the other packs as well. Although she had no intentions of ever actually meeting with them, knowing their names could prove useful at some point.
His claims of purebred supremacy did not inspire much of anything within her. Eris could hardly be bothered with pedigrees, especially when it held no gain for her. However, he seemed to be incredibly proud of his heritage, so she would say nothing negative. When he questioned her origins, however, Eris looked from him to a non-specific area behind him, then back.
What to say...
She did not have a clan name as he did. Her pack was simply Kronus' pack. Eris wondered if he would have known of them. They were not renowned for anything, nor very keen on being known. At least, not when she was last apart of the group. She was doubtless that things would have stayed exactly as they were before. Before she would find herself thinking too fondly of days gone by, Eris made a sound in her throat.
"Somewhere where it always snowed," she finally responded. "I'm afraid I am neither as significant nor impressive as you are."
Unlike his confidant stance, Eris was far more relaxed, taking no special interest in mentioning anything else in relation to her history. So, seeking to change the topic before any other questions could arise, Eris quickly spoke up.
"Not that I do not appreciate your kindness in response to my trespassing, but...well I was curious as to what will come next?" she asked. "What will you do with me?"
She never made mention of her brother, for good reason. If a punishment of some sort was in order, Eris would take it solely upon herself. Her pale eyes searched his for any indication of retaliation.

ooc: Sorry it took so long! "It must be somewhere outside of Azketac then," he replied with a soft smile. She wasn't from one of the important packs, because he had ever heard of a pack who lived where it always snowed, unless it was outside his province. Oh right, of course he was starting to feel a little nervous now; what if member of the Whitedapple Pack caught him playing the role of an alpha... especially being the bad-blooded torn hearted wolf he was. He'd be killed before Lightning Whitedapple could help him! Ooh, he sighed quickly, the risks you take when your heart is grieved by others. . ."What will I do with you...?" he inquired, trying not o let his worry sip, but he was pretty sure he did not do a good job with that. "Oh yes, of course. What will I do with you."He never intended to deal in political affairs that Lightning seriously should deal in. "I... will do nothing," he said calmly, his shoulders relaxing as he took confidence in his answer. "I do not grant you permission to come into this territory... nor do I not grant you permission. I say as long as you don't stir up trouble, you're fine."
