Emerald eyes flickered open to the sight of a grey stone wall, ears slowly tuning into the sound of a muted pounding, as familiar to the green wolf as her own heartbeat. Blinking a couple of times, Pine rolled onto her feet and stood, stretching with a yawn. After finishing, the female pulled in the scents of a happy pack. Padding towards the small tunnel that lead to her cave, a cave chosen for the safety it offered, not for size, she ducked her verdant head and padded along, emerging into the central cavern of her pack. To her right, the mighty waterfall crashed into the rocks at the basin, filling the entire cavern with a fragrant, humid air, cool and calming in the morning. The sun wouldn't be flooding the cavern for good until the evening, but there was already enough light to see by, especially to the jaden wolf's practiced eye.
It had been a few days since she had eaten, and Pine could feel her stomach emptying, rumbling for more. Deciding to eat, and then go out and hunt, she padded towards the place where the last of a large deer carcass lay, remnants of a pack hunt a few days ago. Bending her head, the female ripped off a large chunk. Barely chewing, she swallowed it down before going for another one, and another after that. Finally sated, the wolf jumped heavily to a ledge, not much higher than the cavern floor, but giving her a good view of everyone. Settling down lazily, she blinked into the dim light, watching as her pack slowly started awakening. |

~~Dappleshade~~ "I'm Mrs. Wise"
Dappleshade rolled over in her sleep, and stretched her legs as the warm sun rays found it's way to them. She yawned and blinked her eyes open sleepily as the dappled spots of sun flicked on the stone walls of the den. She yawned again and shivered making her grey fur move on her thin back. She blinked again looking round at her sleeping friends and sister before deciding she'd do well to see if there was anything left over from the kill they had brought in ages ago. She looked down at her belly as it rumbled before trotting swiftly out of the den not looking behind her.
She moved straight over to where the carcass lay not realizing the Alphess, Pine Riverwinter was already awake. She tore of a piece of flesh from the deers hind leg. She sighed and grunted as the flesh watered in her mouth ravenously. She would of barked for her sister to come and share this meal with her, but she had so much to do with the male wolves now that Dappleshade didn't care less. She took the meat to the far corner of the packs camp and settled down to tuck into the flesh.
A few bites in and she noticed the Alphess on the high ledge with some of the meat of her own Dappleshade gulped nervously and dipped her head in respect to Pine and stood up to the leader. "Good morning Pine Riverwinter" she barked formally addressing her Alphess. "Do you mind my eating? You know I thought no one else was awake" she began glancing at the kill before adding, "- You should take the pack on a big hunt, we could do with some more kill - and I wouldn't mind stretching my legs a bit" she barked sitting down again and nosed her chest with her snout to make sure she was looking decent.
She couldn't help it but she always acted different when talking to Pine, she deserved respect at least but Dappleshade never wanted to seem rude to authority. She wasn't about to speak to Pine as if she was her litter mate! She sighed blinked and restraining another yawn and glanced at the remains of the meat she had torn off the carcass before looking up at the Alphess again expecting a reply.
